BAM Appoints Dortech for Glazing Package at Salesian Academy, Bootle

Dortech Architectural Systems Ltd is proud to confirm its appointment by BAM Construction for the curtain walling and glazing package at the new Salesian Academy development in Bootle. This latest win marks a significant continuation of one of the most trusted partnerships in the UK construction sector. Salesian Academy becomes the 88th project Dortech has delivered for BAM since the relationship began in 2002, and further strengthens Dortech’s standing as a leading facade specialist in the education sector.

Over the past 23 years, Dortech has worked with multiple regional BAM divisions across the country, including BAM NE, NW, Midlands, and Birmingham—delivering technically complex and visually striking glazing solutions across schools, universities, hospitals, and commercial projects. The cumulative value of work delivered by Dortech for BAM now exceeds £23.9 million, with the education sector accounting for a significant portion of that portfolio.

For the Salesian Academy Bootle scheme, Dortech’s pre-contract design team collaborated closely with Pozzoni Architects, developing a tailored curtain walling system featuring deep extruded cover caps and bold wide transoms. A visually engaging highlight includes the integration of Vanceva coloured interlayers in the glazing to the school’s chapel, casting multicoloured light and adding a spiritual ambience to the space.

With all new-build school environments, energy performance is critical. Dortech has specified high-performance glazing that achieves low U-values while maximising visible light transmission and controlling solar heat gain—ensuring comfort for pupils and efficiency for operators.

The project will utilise Technal’s Tental 50 curtain walling and FZ75 window systems, which are being integrated into the school’s environmental control strategy. The FZ75 windows will include remote actuation to support intelligent, automated ventilation across the building.

Glazing works are scheduled to begin in December 2025, delivered by Dortech’s in-house fabrication and installation teams—ensuring seamless quality control, timely programme delivery, and compliance with BAM’s high safety and performance standards.

This project builds on the legacy of recent BAM–Dortech collaborations at WMG Academy, Hallmoor School, Laurus Cheadle Hulme School, and Southam College, and exemplifies the trusted, delivery-focused relationship between the two companies.
