Dortech is delighted to announce the formation of a relationship with Kirklees College to develop and roll-out an ongoing apprenticeship programme.
Dortechs Production Manager, John Lambert (pictured above with Robert Tulk, Kirklees College Learning Assessment Officer), was motivated to introduce the scheme after reflecting on the widely reported skills shortage in the UK Construction industry and issues that an ageing workforce are already starting to have.
John commented; “Many young people today want to learn a trade and instead are channelled thorough the academic qualifications route, which they are not necessarily best suited to. Service trades & professions, such as as advertising, accountancy and legal seem to attain the greatest levels of support and construction/production sectors are frequently neglected.
There are so many opportunities for young people in what we do and we are very excited about the opportunities that this new relationship with Kirklees College could hold. Just taking our own factory, we manufacture so many different types of products, from curtain wall, to aluminium windows and doors, to aluminium folding sliding doors and rooflights. Furthermore, Dortech is a company that is always looking for continual improvements; not just in our products, but our production methodology and in the wider production facility itself.
We are confident that this initiative is going to be very successful, not just for Dortech and the College, but the young people we engage as well.”
