We are delighted that BAM Construction appointed Dortech to deliver over 3,100m2 of architectural glazing at the new University of Central Lancashire’s Engineering Innovation Centre. This fantastic project was designed by architects SimpsonHaugh & Partners and utilised a variety of curtain walling and glass specifications to achieve the clients design requirements, including:
• Technal MX 62 Profiles, Standard Cappings and Accessories
• Technal MX62 TMX2522 200mm extended square capping to verticals and Soffit
Over 45 different types of glass specification, incorporating Saint Gobain CoolLite SKN and a variety of infills for non-visions areas of the building.
Special consideration has had to be taken with the installation strategy for the curtain walling system due to the large pane sizes of glass, which in some cases required units over 3.2 meters in height! In fact, the largest glass pane size measured a whopping 1,050mm wide and 4,450mm high, with a weight in excess of 260 Kg’s.
Acoustic flanking achieved with the introduction of a high mass acoustic foam insert, which was inserted into aluminium sections and the curtain walling was installed with the use of mast climbers, which were fully managed by Dortech.

Having trained and given work to many generations of engineers at BAM, the building is close to our hearts.”
Identified as a signature project within Lancashire’s Strategic Economic Plan, the EIC has secured £10.5 million via the Lancashire Enterprise Partnerships’ Growth Deal with the Government. The new facility has also received £5.8 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and £5 million from HEFCE’s STEM Capital Fund.
