Dortech has recently been appointed by Leeds-based GMI Construction Group to deliver the architectural glazing for their £20m contract, for Evans Property Group, at Fradley Park in Lichfield.

The new 430,000 sq ft industrial development has been designed by architect Kilmartin Plowman & Partners and is the second significant instruction at Fradley Park following the completion of a large distribution facility built for Tesco, in 2016.

Dortech’s scope of work comprises of the design, manufacture and installation of over 900m2 of architectural glazing, including curtain walling, aluminium windows and entrance doors. Dortechs works are due to commence on site this September and will be the first project in the UK to utilise Technals 75R aluminium extrusions!

So, what is 75R?

75R  ensures that a minimum of 75% of the curtain walling profiles will be produced from post-consumer recycled aluminium.

The reasons for recycling are commercial as well as environmental, since recycling aluminium saves 90% to 95% of the energy needed to make aluminum from bauxite ore, coupled with local production of the metal through recycling, makes sound economic sense. Virtually 100% of the scrap arising from the manufacture and production of aluminium products can be recycled.

Furthermore, one of the key benefits of using aluminium in construction is that is retains its properties indefinitely.

It is Dortechs policy to encourage all its suppliers to be environmentally progressive and ensure environmental criteria are taken into account in the procurement of goods and services. This is a really positive development from our long-term partner Technal and we look forward to utilising 75R across more of our projects in the future.
