Appointed by Urban Group, Dortech was entrusted with the design, manufacture, and installation of over 700m² of architectural glazing for this landmark project.
Straits Aire: A New Standard in Student Living
Straits Aire, developed by Urban Group, is a nine-storey student accommodation building located on Merrion Street, Leeds. Designed by Brewster Bye Architects and managed by Prestige Student Living, the building is set to become one of the most sought-after residences for students in Leeds, offering 88 boutique en-suite studios equipped with top-tier facilities.
The project is part of Urban Group’s ongoing commitment to revitalizing urban spaces and providing high-quality residential and student accommodations across the UK. With its prime location near Leeds’ universities, shops, and leisure outlets, Straits Aire is expected to be a significant addition to the city’s vibrant community.
Dortech’s Contribution: Excellence in Architectural Glazing
For the Straits Aire project, Dortech Architectural Systems Ltd was responsible for the full scope of architectural glazing, incorporating Technal’s aluminium glazing systems for the entrance and exit doors, curtain walling, and aluminium windows. Our work also included the integration of high-performance acoustic glazing, a crucial feature given the building’s central location in Leeds. This glazing solution was selected to minimize noise pollution and enhance the comfort of the residents.
In addition to these features, louvres were incorporated into the heads of some aluminium windows to accommodate ventilation needs and interface seamlessly with the building’s Building Management System (BMS). This integration ensures that the building not only meets aesthetic standards but also operates efficiently, supporting Urban Group’s vision of creating sustainable, modern living spaces.
