Dortech has completed glazing works to Oldhams latest academy, Waterhead Academy. Dortech were contracted by Main Contractors, Willmott Dixon to design, manufacture and install over 2,800m2 of glazing including curtain walling, windows, doors, roof lights and brise soleil. The scheme was designed by architects AEDAS, based in Manchester.
This new academy embodies the coming together of two predecessor schools at Breeze Hill and Counthill, which were founded in 1960 and 1951 respectively.
In a bold attempt to bridge the racial divide in the town of Oldham, Greater Manchester, these two schools, considers its most segregated were merged.
The four-storey academy features two wings, with a terrace on the roof of the sports hall, as well as two courtyard areas and indoor and outdoor sporting facilities available to all the local community.
